Does the left in this Country, specifically those who voted for kerry, consider themselves "World Citizens", or Americans First?

This is so much bull and you know it. Just because the left doesn't agree with you, they hate America. I put it to you that you hate America because you don't ask it to stand to its own high values.
---whoman69

Look....don't ever say that I hate America. If you've read any of my posts or recent articles you know that I think America is the best nation in the goddamn world, bar none.
We're the most generous, most open and most compassionate country in history, often to our detriment.
The Left is completely free to disagree with me (one of the many things that makes America great)....but not when I read all this crap from libs around here about how oppressive our government is, how arrogant we are because we insist on doing things our own way and in our own time, rather than put it up for a vote in the logjam of conflicting political agendas called the UN General Assembly, etc.
I will and do speak up when I read America-bashing posts, and do not apologize for this, or for anything we've done as a nation. So there.

So there.

What are you in fourth grade? You forgot to stick your tongue out and cross your eyes at me.

Your "America hating" is just another excuse to bash the left. Much like your buddy Ashcroft who stated that anyone that was opposed to the war and the patriot act was a traitor. The hate is in the mirror. You hate so much you see it in everyone. America love it or leave, the mantra of Richard Nixon and Archie Bunker is alive and well in this country. Just because someone doesn't see the warped America you espouse they must hate America. The unmoral minority takes another shot at America in the 21st century.

I would think *you* are the one with the hatred, not rightwinger! He's right...go back and reread his other posts, you will find the opposite of what your saying.

And once again, children, we see the utter lack of humor with which the Left observes the world.
My "so there" was just an attempt to lighten the mood. I don't like to fight with anyone, w69, and I use humor to defuse bad feelings.
The only humor the Left uses is when it listens to wannabe "political pundits" like Al Franken and Janeane Garofolo attempt to skewer the Right. I don't hate you because you're a liberal, I simply disagree with and dislike your politics. So there.

I can accept that, and probably went over the line. I was put in a foul mood by the "India and many other countries just hit the lottery," quote by Citizen Gideon MacLeish. Such a distasteful statement put me in a foul humor.

BTW, I would be interested to hear what it is the left stands for? You see John Kerry only told me about how much of a f***-up General Bush is, and how he is not different from Bush just more capable, but no one ever told me what is that the left in this country stand for.

There is no problem with believeing your country is great, possibly or probably the best, but to believe that it is utterly perfect and without sin is simply delusional. Then, anyone who points out flaws or things that can be done better all of the sudden hates America and is being attacked from all sides (but mostly the right) for being unpatriotic.

the ideas & ideals to which America aspires are great; indeed we Americans are far from perfect; how could we be otherwise living in so dark a world; why just the other day General Bush, in acknowledging that the road to democracy in Iraq would be a rocky one, invoked a sordid part of America’s history to illustrate his point: slavery. Yes humankind indeed has a hell of a long way to go before any one person can get up on his high horse ... I am grateful that America is here to lead the way out of the dark and into the light.

hitparade - 'General Bush' - I see that now the election is over a number of right wing bloggers have openly taken to calling GWB 'General Bush' or 'Our Leader'. We don't do that sort of thing in civilized countries anymore. This is further proof of the militaristic mindset of these folks. This also reminds me of how ClearChannel is now displaying huge billobard ads with a picture of Bush and the caption 'Our Leader'. How North Korean.

'America First!' is eerily reminiscent of some Nazi slogans of the 1930's. Here are some I found over at www.wikipedia.com, replace 'Germany' with "America' and tell me if these sound similar to what the Dr. Millers and rightwingers and hitparades and ModerateMans are spewing:

# "Lang lebe Unser Ruhmvoller Führer"
* "Long Live Our Glorious leader!" (Dr. Miller loves calling Bush his 'Leader')

# "Ihr Heimatland Wird Deutschland Genannt! Lieben Sie Es Vor allem! Handlung Nicht Wörter!"
* "Your Fatherland Is Called Germany! Love It Above All! Action Not Words!". (My country, right or wrong, a deprecated mindset not suitable to 21st century civilization)

# "Deutschlands Feinde sind Ihre Feinde. Hassen Sie Sie Mit Ihrem Ganzen Herzen!"
* "Germany's Enemies are Your Enemies. Hate Them With Your Whole Heart!". (And oh Lord, do right wing Americans hate anyone who disagrees with them with their whole heart)

# "Er, der Deutschland Missbraucht, Missbraucht Sie und Ihre Toten. Schlagen Sie Ihre Faust Gegen Ihn!"
* "He who Abuses Germany, Abuses You and Your Dead. Strike Your Fist Against Him!". (And they are so thin skinned to criticism!)

# "Die Deutschen Immer Vor dem Ausländer und Juden"
* "The German Always Before the Foreigner and Jew!" (Americans - right wing Americans - have an irrational hatred of anything non-American these days)

GrooveDygger -- BTW, post-modernist thinkers decry America's invocation of sovereignty while contradictorily demanding respect for the sovereignty of a state such as Iraq: why is that?

I agree that GM could have been a little more subtle in his wording, but I do have to go along with the sentiment. We've already been accused of being "stingy", though, by the UN, so maybe their jackpot isn't as big as it could have been.
Of course, when they had to spend 100,000+ lives to win it, I think the ante was a little too rich for my blood, if you get my drift.

I think you forgot one:

"America Uber Alles!"

Yeah, us jackbooted stormtroopers who patriotically support our country; we're such nationalist fascists. I do hope to God I'm misreading all this crap, and you're just joking.

When Bush grows a toothbrush mustache and a quivering forelock, starts screaming, bulging his eyes and waving his hands when he gives a speech, then I'll worry.

I would think *you* are the one with the hatred, not rightwinger! He's right...go back and reread his other posts, you will find the opposite of what your saying.
